gabe with his shiny new kay guitar

I had a great little time in Cape Girardeau, MO with Debbie’s side of the family. Ate way too much food, but it felt so right. We opened gifts, and laughed at and with each other and partied until the sun began to peek through the clouds. However, I was definitely missing my side of the family. So it was with fantastic excitement that I heard my dad on the other line telling me he was driving up with my mom from San Antonio to hang out for a bit in Nashville. The point was to watch the Cowboys play the Eagles…ouch. That hurt. That was misery personified. I have some friends who are Eagles fans…and they better not mention the game around me if they want to enjoy the rest of their day. That’s all i’m gonna say about that.

But anyway, the reason I’m posting is because tonight my dad brought out a gift, which turned out to be a 1962 Kay Swingmaster Guitar with Gold “K” pickups.
The guys in the band can tell you…i’ve been really searching in every music store, in every city we’ve stopped in, looking for a guitar…craigslist, ebay…just really searching for an electric guitar that sounds great, and fits neatly into my snobby ‘it’s got to be vintage’ category. This guitar is a thing of beauty…and my dad bought it for $50. I know, I know…outrageous. I plugged it in and it sounds like a dream…a dream full of warm, beautiful tone.

I’m just really thankful and blessed to not only be able to spend some much needed time with my folks…but that they came with a much needed gift as well.

I wish my acoustic guitar wasn’t such a mess and still unrepaired…but this more than makes up for it.

thanks mom and dad…

Ughhh!!! I just don’t even know what happened in that game!! But there was a point, when Tony Romo got sacked and fumbled the ball backwards and the Eagles ran it in, the camera panned in close on Tony, laying on the ground, he picked up his head, looked downfield and just laid his head back down in the dirt. All my frustration with the game just left and I felt so sorry for him. Made me wanna cry.
I got a new Cowboys hoodie for Christmas. I will still wear it with pride. Win or Lose – I love the Boys!
Congrats on the guitar. Can’t wait to hear you play.
    Miss you guys.
Tell Debbie I said Hi and Merry Christmas – Happy New Year!
    Lots of love,
    Tanya

    LUCKY.
Man that thing is gorgeous. And for $50?!
I got my guitar for like 80, and it’s nothing compared to that.
